Let it Rain

Anyone else been in a season where it feels like the rains of this life just keep coming down on you? It’s as if you’re standing in the wide open with the water dripping off of you as you search in desperation for blue skies, yet all you can see for miles and miles is the gray that brings with it the certainty that another downpour is on its way. I get it. I really, truly get it and it’s a hard place to be. Yet God in His goodness so gently reminded me today that the rains are absolutely necessary for growth and life. For without rain there is a drought, and with droughts come death.

You see, these rainstorms that we find ourselves in at different points in our life- they are working to produce in us a perseverance of faith and a closeness to Jesus that we otherwise wouldn’t have. I don’t know about you, but I would rather be soaked in the rain than dry and cracked in the dirt. I would rather endure the hardships with hope than wilt away in bitterness and anger. There is a line in a song by Crowder where he sings, Let it rain if you want, You are God and I am not. That is a hard and bold prayer to proclaim, yet ever so true.

There is peace in knowing that only He knows what is springing up from the deluge. Only He knows the work that He’s accomplishing under the surface. And He is a good Father that we can trust, friends. He promises good and perfect plans for us. Plans to prosper and not to harm. Plans to produce good fruit in our lives. We may be drenched now, but the promise of the harvest is coming. So today I will embrace the rains and declare as joyfully as these weary bones will allow to let it rain, let it pour, for I need Him more and more. Happy Sunday, friends.

Abide in Him Always,

Ashley
