Bread Machine Cinnamon Rolls

I have to admit that the first time I made these delicious cinnamon rolls, I had very little confidence that they would actually turn out to be anything in comparison to cinnamon rolls that you would normally spend half the day making. Much to my surprise, I was wrong and they ended up being some of the best cinnamon rolls I’ve ever had. My mom almost cried when she saw and tasted these, saying they reminded her of my Granny’s that she grew up eating as a child. Considering how close I was to my grandma, this compliment was received with humble pride and love. My dad also raved about them, saying they were better than the cinnamon rolls sold by a popular food chain.

If you have a bread machine at home, you can also create these scrumptious sweet rolls with very little “hands on” time required. As with most mothers these days, I love this idea and strive to put baked goods on my table that are made from scratch in my own kitchen, but rarely have the time to spend half a day kneading and rising. This is where my bread machine saves the day every time! My dad gifted me with a lovely bread machine last year that he had found for a very reasonable price at a local thrift store. If you are on a budget, I highly suggest checking in at some of your local thrift stores as well. I see bread machines all the time at ours, and most look like they have never been used. My only suggestion would be to make sure that the kneading blade isn’t missing on the bottom of the bread pan! Obviously this is the most essential part and your bread machine will be useless without it.

These cinnamon rolls will set the scene for a delicious breakfast that will surely become a favorite of those whom gather at your table. They also make for a special afternoon snack that will score you some major mom points with your kiddos! Just be sure you put away a few for yourself to enjoy once they have gone to bed. We both know you have a secret “mom stash”…don’t worry, I have one too!

I hope you will try these for yourself and will enjoy them as much as we do around your own family table. I’m a firm believer that a lot of the cultivating we do in the hearts of our children happen around the table over delectable food and good conversations. These cinnamon rolls are sure to help open their hearts and minds to receive the wisdom that is to be gained at their seat of the table. So gather round and enjoy!

Servings 12

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp yeast
  • 3 1/3 cups all purpose flour (preferably unbleached)
  • 3 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 Tbsp water

Filling

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 Tbsp butter, softened

Glaze

  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • 2-3 tsp milk

Instructions

  • First, add yeast to the bottom of bread machine. Next add flour, sugar, and salt.
  • In a large bowl add melted butter, beaten egg, milk, and water. Pour over dry ingredients in bread machine and choose the dough setting. (It takes my bread machine about an hour and 15 minutes to mix and rise dough. This is a great time to go ahead and prepare filling!)
  • When dough is finished, place onto lightly floured surface. Knead in extra flour to make dough easier to handle. If too elastic, cover and leave for 10 minutes.
  • Using a floured rolling pin, roll dough into a rectangular shape about 1/4 inch thick.

To add Filling

  • Mix all filling ingredients in bowl and spread over entire dough.
  • Next, roll up dough and cut into 1 inch circles.
  • Place into a greased 9×13 inch pan. Cover with tea towel and allow to rise in a warm place until double in size. (Approximately 30 minutes.)
  • Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes or until light brown on top.

To add Glaze

  • Mix all glaze ingredients in a bowl. Allow cinnamon rolls to cool and then spread glaze onto the rolls. Enjoy!
